Services for Jacob L. Markel will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Denbow-Primm Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Pringle officiating. Burial will be in Ashland County Memorial Parki.
Friends may call on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Markel, 86, of 1178 Township Road 1056, RD 5, Ashland, died early Tuesday morning in his daughter's home, where he had resided for the past three years.
He was born in Ashland County, in June 5, 1903, the son of Samuel L. and Mildred Lona Sponsler Markel.
He was a life-long resident of Ashland County. He was a 45-year member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 2178. Mr. Markel was a former carpenter and a retired truck driver.
Mr. Markel is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Lois) Budd and Mrs. George (Mildred) Carmen), both of Ashland; three sons, Robert L. Markel of Boise, Idaho, and Samuel G. Markel and Richard W. Markel, both of Ashland; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Wallace Duff Markel and Samuel J. Markel, both of Ashland.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Fry Markel, on May 16, 1976.
